Day two was dedicated to understanding Dubai beyond its towering skyscrapers. The city sightseeing tour took the family through historic neighbourhoods, past Dubai Creek, and into areas that showcased the city’s roots as a trading port. For the elders, this context added depth to the experience, offering insight into how Dubai evolved so rapidly while still preserving its heritage.

Later in the day came one of the most anticipated moments of the trip, a visit to the Burj Khalifa. Ascending to the 124th and 125th floors, the family watched Dubai stretch endlessly below them. The elders stood quietly, taking in the vastness, while the youngest member was filled with excitement, pointing at buildings and roads far beneath their feet. It became one of those rare moments where awe was shared across generations.

Abu Dhabi and the Thrill of Ferrari World

The third day took the family beyond Dubai to Abu Dhabi, adding variety to the itinerary. The sightseeing tour offered glimpses of the capital’s wide roads, cultural landmarks, and elegant architecture, providing a contrast to Dubai’s fast-paced energy.

The highlight of the day was Ferrari World. The iconic red structure itself sparked excitement even before entering. Inside, the experience balanced thrill and fascination perfectly. Despite being a long day, the tour was well-paced, with enough time at each stop to explore comfortably without feeling overwhelmed.

Day four brought together entertainment, education, and modern design. The visit to the Dubai Dolphinarium turned into a joyful afternoon, especially for the child, whose laughter echoed throughout the show. Watching dolphins and seals perform playful routines added lightness and fun to the trip.

The family then visited the Dubai Frame, where a single viewpoint offered a striking contrast between old and new Dubai. For the elders, it was a reflective experience, while for the younger members, it was visually fascinating. The day concluded at the Museum of the Future, where innovation, imagination, and technology blended seamlessly. The exhibits sparked curiosity across ages, making it one of the most engaging and thought-provoking stops on the journey.

The fifth day unfolded at a relaxed pace, beginning with a visit to the Dubai Miracle Garden. Walking through vibrant floral installations felt calming and uplifting, especially for the senior members of the family. The carefully designed displays offered countless photo opportunities and moments to pause and admire the creativity on display.

As evening approached, the family headed to Global Village. The atmosphere here was lively and welcoming, filled with cultural pavilions, performances, and food stalls from around the world. It became a space where everyone found something they enjoyed, from shopping and tasting global cuisines to simply strolling together and soaking in the festive energy.

Views from Above and the Desert Below

Day six delivered contrast at its best. The morning visit to The View at The Palm offered breathtaking views of Palm Jumeirah, showcasing Dubai’s architectural ambition from above. The experience felt calm and visually striking, setting the tone for the day.

Later, the family ventured into the desert for a classic Dubai desert safari. The dune bashing added excitement, while cultural performances and a BBQ dinner under the stars brought warmth and charm to the evening. Despite being a shared experience, the arrangements were comfortable and well-managed, ensuring that even the elders and the child enjoyed the outing without discomfort.

On the final day, the family checked out and headed to the airport. Transfers were punctual, instructions were clear, and there was never a moment of uncertainty. As they prepared to leave, conversations naturally turned towards favourite moments and shared memories from the past week.

Ever since we had decided to host the South Asian Sociological Society’s conference at Dubai, we lost our peace. Planning the conference involved lots of arrangements, bookings and invites.

And that is when Thrillophilia came to our rescue. Their integrity, punctuality and management skills had me in awe. Apart from arranging our conference, they also crafted an efficient itinerary for our team to explore Dubai.

And he wasn’t wrong. The drive to our hotel itself showed us the beauty of Dubai. We witnessed extensive highways, a glistening skyline adorned with the silhouettes of skyscrapers and a few momentous landmarks of the city.

In the sky and beneath the sea

Our Dubai trip started at the iconic Burj Khalifa.

We boarded the world’s fastest elevator to Level 124 and 125 of the building. Our hearts throbbed in fear and excitement. But it was worth the ride as we got to see breathtaking views of the Dubai city. For a moment, we forgot if we were on the earth or amidst the clouds.

We then moved to the Dubai Aquarium and Penguin Cove. As we stood watching the different varieties of sea animals, our eyes gleamed like little kids.

‘I have seen these creatures only in National Geographic documentaries’ one of us exclaimed. ‘Had I brought my son, he would have wanted to take the shark back home’, said the other and we all burst out laughing.

The day ended with the much awaited Dhow Cruise at Dubai Marina. We were all famished and tired by then. We filled our plates with the yummy food at the buffet and sat down on the open deck of the wooden boat.

As the boat slowly sailed through the waters, we spent the night playing games and dancing. The cool breeze and melodious Arabic music in the background put a wonderful pause to our busy day.

Big ideas below the skyscrapers

Our conference was scheduled on the second day of our trip. The management of Thrillophilia, particularly, Piyush Gupta and Jyoti organised a wonderful venue for the conference. The room was equipped with all the necessary amenities for all the business engagements. Thanks to Thrillophilia and their meticulous planning, the conference was a success. They also arranged lunch for all the dignitaries who took part in the conference.

A city of endless elegance

Following a hectic day at the conference, we wanted to sit back and relax. Our tour guide, Rijju, took us on a peaceful day trip around Dubai. We explored the cultural heritage of the city by visiting Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Mosque and the historic Al Fahidi locality.

"We often remember the tall skyscrapers and modern infrastructure of Dubai, but somehow we have forgotten its beautiful legacy”, I felt.

Our next stop was Miracle Garden where colourful flowers bloomed in different shapes. The lush greenery along with vibrant blossoms refreshed our tired souls. It is not common to find such beautiful backgrounds. So we made use of the opportunity and clicked hundreds of pictures at multiple spots for our Instagram grid.

We then visited the Global Village which brings together ninety different cultures from around the world. Truly, it was an entertaining destination as we got to taste varieties of food and shop for our kith and kin back home.

Golden sands and adventures

If there is one adventure that I would never miss if I visit Dubai again, it would be the desert safari. One of our team members was eagerly waiting for a thrill ride through the sand dunes. And when our 4x4 raced creating a sandstorm, his adrenaline rush was satisfied. He shouted at the top of his lungs ‘Once More please!’.

We then moved to the desert camp where they had arranged a plethora of activities. My favorites were the camel ride and sand boarding. The men of our group donned the white robes like the native Arabs. The ladies, on the other hand, got their henna tattoos.

As the sun set slowly, we were served dinner outside the Bedouin tents. One sip of the coffee and a bite of the local dates was just enough to feel the delight of Arabic cuisine. A scrumptious meal under the stars when paired with live music and dance performance felt like bliss.

Mosque and Marvels

The next day, we had a tight schedule with a full day trip to Abu Dhabi. We first went to the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. ‘

This place sure does look like it is straight out of a painting’ my friend exclaimed. ‘Pinch me, is it even real?’ said the other.

Adding Abu Dhabi to the itinerary was the highlight of our trip. While everyone often talks about Dubai and its beauty, the capital city is forgotten. But Thrillophilia included all the noteworthy places like the Corniche and Emirates Palace in our itinerary.

It was our day of departure, but, sadly, we did not want to leave Dubai. A part of all of us wanted to stay there for some more time. Every corner of the city had something to give, challenge and hold us close. I am grateful to Thrillophilia for making our trip memorable and hassle-free.

“Papa, when will we go to a place where buildings touch the sky?”

My daughter asked me one evening while watching a documentary on Dubai. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity and my wife smiled from across the room. That one innocent question planted the seed for a trip that would soon become one of our most cherished family memories.

As a father and husband, I have always believed in creating memories. I have learned that life is about pausing and exploring the world together, hand in hand. And that is exactly what we decided to do in February 2024.

Wandering Souls in the City of Gold

We landed in Dubai, and the winter sun cast a golden hue over the skyline. The first day was set aside for leisure, and honestly, we could not have asked for a better start.

After checking into our hotel, we headed to the Gold Souk and Meena Bazaar. I have seen many markets in India, but Dubai’s bazaars have a sophisticated and rooted rhythm. My wife was mesmerised by the shimmering gold displays, some of which looked too grand to be real. Meanwhile, my daughter clung to my hand as she watched tourists from all corners of the world bargain and shop.

We ended our day at a beach near La Mer. It was not originally included in our itinerary, but Thrillophilia had kindly added it, and I am so glad they did. We walked barefoot along the shore and watched the sun dip below the sea.

My daughter whispered, “This is the sand I imagined, Papa.”

From Skyscrapers to Sand Dunes

Our second day began with a city tour, and sharing the transfer with other tourists turned out to be more fun than expected. We saw the Burj Al Arab and the Atlantis, and drove along Sheikh Zayed Road, with its tall marvels surrounding both sides. My wife could not stop clicking pictures while my daughter kept comparing the buildings to those she had seen in cartoons.

But the highlight of the day was definitely the desert safari. I will admit that dune bashing was far more intense than I imagined. My daughter screamed with joy while I held on to the seat for dear life. My wife burst into laughter like I hadn’t seen in years- it was wonderful to see her so happy. That evening, we watched the sunset over the desert in oranges and pinks, followed by a traditional dinner under the stars.

There were live Tanoura performances, fire shows, and belly dancing, and the food was just what we needed after a thrilling ride. While sitting together on floor cushions and sipping tea, I looked at my family and thought, “this is what it means to feel alive”.

On Top of the World and Beneath the Sea

The next day, we had a packed schedule, starting with a visit to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Even though we had non-prime hour tickets, the excitement was sky-high (pun intended!). We took the elevator to the 124th and 125th floors, and the view left us speechless.

“Look, Papa! The cars look so tiny!” my daughter exclaimed.

While standing there and overlooking a futuristic sky, I felt a change in me. It was one of those moments that remind you how small we are, and yet how limitless life can be.

Next on our itinerary was the Dubai Aquarium and the Underwater Zoo. The massive glass tunnel, filled with sharks and stingrays, made us feel like we had stepped into another world. My daughter insisted we stay longer just to wave at every fish that swam by.

Later in the day, we explored the Miracle Garden, which was bursting with colour and creativity. Giant Disney characters sculpted from flowers, heart-shaped archways, and floating umbrellas were like a storybook in real life.

We arrived at the Global Village in the evening. The mix of cultures, cuisines, and performances blew us away. From African drumming to French pastries, we tasted and saw the world in a single evening.

A Day of Dreams and Lights

Our final day was the most intense and magical one.

We had a private car from noon till late evening, which gave us the comfort and space to move at our own pace. Our first stop was the AYA Universe. It is hard to describe this place as it felt like a mix of science, art, and wonder. Imagine walking through galaxies, interacting with lights and reflections, and stepping into a world that reacts to your movements. My daughter danced in the glowing halls, and we let go of time.

Next, we visited The View at the Palm, where we stood above the iconic Palm Jumeirah and soaked in its perfect shape from the observatory. It made me appreciate how vision and engineering come together in Dubai like nowhere else.

We also visited the Museum of the Future. From flying cars to AI-driven health pods, it was like being fast-forwarded 50 years. But what stood out most to me was a message on the wall that said, “The future belongs to those who imagine it.” I took a picture of it as a reminder.

The day ended with a Dhow Cruise at the Marina. Gentle waves, city lights reflecting on the water, delicious food, and live music were the perfect send-off. My wife leaned on my shoulder, and my daughter fell asleep halfway through the cruise while holding a little souvenir she had bought.

They say every love story has a place that holds pieces of two hearts growing together. For us, that city was Dubai.

My wife and I had talked about a “perfect romantic getaway” several times. But life always found ways to postpone it, and we kept telling each other, “Someday soon.”

Then, Valentine’s week was approaching, and this time, we promised not to wait.

I still remember our excitement as we planned the itinerary that included dolphins, deserts, skylines, and a whole world of firsts. What we did not know was how magical this trip would turn out to be.

Dolphins, Sunsets, and a Cruise into Love

We landed in Abu Dhabi with our hearts racing and eyes twinkling. After a comfortable drive to Dubai, we checked into our hotel early, thanks to the warm hospitality arranged by Thrillophilia in advance. The view from our room was absolutely beautiful as we could see wide roads and tall glass buildings.

Our first stop was the Dolphin & Seal Show. To our surprise, it was a beautiful and joyous start to the trip. My wife laughed with her eyes wide as the dolphins performed. I was already glad we came.

But it was the evening that truly set the tone.

We stepped onto a Marina Dhow Cruise that was lit up with golden lights and the sound of soft music. The breeze was slow as we glided through the glittering skyline of Dubai while dining under the stars. We enjoyed the beautiful spectacle together and made the moment memorable.

Diving into the City Dreams

The next day took us deeper into the centre of the city. We started with a Dubai City Tour to explore the contrasts of old souks filled with spices and gold and futuristic marvels like Palm Jumeirah and Jumeirah Mosque. At every turn, Dubai felt like a city that believed in the impossible.

Then, we visited our long-awaited dream: the Burj Khalifa. As the elevator climbed to the 124th and 125th floors, we were quiet. And when the doors opened, the world opened with them.

The view was endless as there was a desert on one side, the sea on the other, and a sparkling city on the rest of the area.

That evening, we stood before the Fountain Show to see the music rising with water dancing to its rhythm. It felt like the universe had composed a symphony just for us.

Atlantis, Adventures, and Valentine’s Day Magic

It was Valentine’s Day, and I had planned the perfect celebration.

We spent the morning at Aquaventure Waterpark, where we raced down slides, laughed out loud, and relaxed in lazy rivers. We were just two kids in love, making the most of a day that felt made for us.

In the afternoon, we entered a different world at the Lost Chambers Aquarium.

We walked through glowing tunnels, surrounded by over 65,000 marine creatures. While holding hands under the soft blue light, we whispered stories about each fish like they were our old friends.

I gave her a small note I had written, folded inside a seashell-shaped box.

It said: “Of all the depths I have explored, none are as beautiful as the depth of your love.”

She cried. There was no other place or day as perfect as this.

Lights, Sand, and a Star-Lit Dinner

On the fourth day, we visited AYA Universe, which was an immersive art space that felt like walking inside a dream. Lights moved, floors glowed, and we giggled in wonder. It was modern, yes, but something about it felt oddly emotional, like we were exploring a universe we had created just for each other.

Then we went for the Desert Safari, and it was like nothing we had ever done.

Dune bashing had our hearts racing while the sun was setting behind golden hills. As the sky turned pink, we climbed a dune and just stood there. The desert held our silence, and we admired the views.

On that night, we feasted on BBQ under the stars, watched belly dancers twirl in firelight, and shared stories with fellow travellers. The breeze was cool, and the food was warm, and enjoying this experience together made this moment even more wonderful.

Abu Dhabi’s Charm and Ferrari-Powered Thrills

On our last day, we went back to Abu Dhabi.

There, we visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which was a splendid monument of faith and architecture. The white marble domes and gold-plated chandeliers made us both reflect on how far we had come.

Then we turned the energy up with a visit to Ferrari World. I had always been a car enthusiast, and she had always been calm to my speed. But when we rode the Formula Rossa, the fastest roller coaster in the world, she screamed louder than I did!

After the ride, she clutched my hand and laughed, “Now that is what falling in love all over again feels like.”

We ended the day with dinner while watching the city pass by from our car window. The skyline blurred, but our memories were sharper than ever.

Pami and I were browsing a weekend flea market when I came across a postcard. It was a colourful scene of the Dubai skyline with Burj Khalifa and the other skyscrapers shining bright at night. I showed it to my husband with a smile and asked half-jokingly, “Maybe it is a sign?”

We have always been drawn to the beauty of Dubai. But we had never actually made the move from dream to plan.

Until that evening.

We went home, put the postcard on our fridge, and made a promise to visit Dubai in March 2025. And this time, for real. To celebrate our anniversary and explore a world so different yet dazzling. Lanterns from Morocco and street food stalls of Korea on one side, and Russian ballet performances and a Jamaican reggae stage on the other. We walked through this global mosaic, holding each other’s hands.

Pami laughed as we tried Turkish ice cream and said, "This might be the most romantic world tour we have had without leaving one city." I nodded. We did not want the evening to end, but our tired legs and full hearts insisted it was time to return.

Skyscrapers and Sky Views

The next day was something I had dreamed about - to see Dubai from above. Our second day was all about elevation. We began with the Sky View Observatory. As the elevator took us to the 53rd floor, I held Pami’s hand a little tighter. The city looked spectacular from such a height.

After that, we reached the Burj Khalifa. When we stood on the 124th floor, I felt small and infinite at once. The view was so beautiful that we felt like floating above a shining city of glass.

We also spent hours at the Dubai Mall, admired the Dubai Fountain, and indulged in treats. That night, as the water danced to music and lights, I swayed too. "This city does not sleep, does it?" I said. Pami smiled, "Neither should we."

AYA, Dolphins, and Framed Memories

The third day was a mix of magic and marvels. The day started with laughter and wide-eyed surprise at the Dubai Dolphinarium. I clapped like a child watching the dolphins leap and spin.

But what came next was absolutely beautiful: AYA Universe. There were lights, mirrors, and stories everywhere. We walked through galaxies and gardens that looked timeless. It felt like walking through someone’s imagination.

Then came the iconic Dubai Frame. Standing between the old and new parts of the city, it felt symbolic. It seemed like how we have grown together from our younger days of college dates and shared earphones to now, holding hands in a city that felt like tomorrow.

Desert Dreams and Dune Diaries

The next day was planned to be raw, thrilling, and memorable. We got to know that it was time for a DESERT SAFARI, and the driver was a dune drifter.

The moment the car hits the sand, it becomes a rollercoaster. I laughed until I cried. We also sandboarded, rode a camel, and watched the sunset on the golden horizon.

On that day, our dinner was set under the stars, with a breeze that smelled of spices and fire. Dancers twirled, fire breathers amazed, and in that moment, I looked at Pami and whispered, "This is the kind of night we will talk about when we get old."

Royal Roads of Abu Dhabi

Our day trip to Abu Dhabi began with paying respects at the majestic Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The white domes gleamed under the morning sun, while the interiors had a quiet peace. We paused often to take it all in.

Later, we went to the Ferrari World, which was a thrilling contrast to the serenity of the mosque. Pami’s laughter echoed through the park as we raced through rides and tasted street snacks. The Heritage Village brought us back to our roots with mud-brick houses and weaving demonstrations.

We wrapped up the day at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, where we saw plenty of art displays. As the sun dipped, we stood hand in hand beneath its honeycomb dome.

Marina Moments and Final Glows

On our final day, we decided to spend the morning at Dubai Marina. The water shimmered beneath the cloudless sky as yachts passed by. We took a slow walk along the promenade, sipped fresh juice, and soaked in the modern attractions all around.

From the bustling cafes to the palm-lined beaches, the marina was a perfect summary of our trip. We sat on a bench as the water lapped gently against the dock, stealing a quiet moment before departure.

"Let us frame this one in our hearts," Pami said. I smiled. "Already done."

It all started one evening at our kitchen table in India. My wife was feeding our daughter while our son flipped through a book on world landmarks. He stopped at a glittering picture of the Burj Khalifa and said, “Papa, is this building real?” I smiled, leaned over, and said, “Not only is it real, but maybe we will see it one day.”

My wife raised an eyebrow. “Are you finally planning that Dubai trip we have been talking about for years?”

We landed in Dubai and were welcomed with warm weather and an even warmer reception. Our hotel was comfortable, and after a quick nap and snack break, we were all set for the main event of the evening - the Lotus Mega Yacht Dinner.

Boarding the yacht felt like entering a movie set. Everything sparkled, including the water, the skyline, and the eyes of my children. My daughter clung to my wife’s hand, while my son was already trying to act like a little gentleman with his mocktail.

The buffet was endless, with everything from fresh seafood to Middle Eastern delights. We had our dinner under the stars as the boat sailed gently past the Marina skyline. My son pointed at the Ain Dubai and shouted, “It is bigger than a Ferris Wheel!”.

At night, as the kids dozed off back in our hotel room, my wife whispered, "Best start to a trip ever."

I nodded. It felt like Dubai had rolled out the red carpet just for us.

Tall Tales and City Lights

The next morning began with a half-day city tour. From the white sands of Jumeirah Beach to the grandeur of the Atlantis Hotel, every spot was picture-perfect. My son was fascinated by the Jumeirah Mosque’s elegant architecture, while my wife loved the fountain outside Dubai Mall that danced to music.

But the highlight of the day, hands down, was our visit to the Burj Khalifa.

We went up to the 124th and 125th floors, and as the elevator doors opened, the view literally made us all gasp. My daughter pressed her tiny face to the glass, whispering, "We are flying!", to which my son replied, “No, we are at the top of the world!”.

Later in the evening, we watched the fountain show from a boat. Music echoed as water jets danced. My son leaned on me and said, "This is better than any movie."

I smiled. "That is because we are living it."

Into the Future and Across the Dunes

The Museum of the Future looked like a sci-fi film. The kids were wide-eyed while walking through floating displays and interactive exhibits. My daughter loved the imaginative "space station" floor, and my son was obsessed with the robotic installations.

The garden was home to huge flower sculptures, and we spent ages taking pictures. At one point, my friend stood in front of a giant flower arch and said, “This is definitely the most beautiful thing I’ve seen on this trip.” I couldn’t argue with that. Everywhere we turned, there was a new spectacle waiting to be discovered.

After the garden, we headed to Global Village, where cultures from around the world were brought together in one space. It was like walking through a mini-world tour, with each pavilion showcasing food, crafts, and performances from different countries. We tried some delicious street food and even watched a traditional folk dance performance. My friend was particularly taken by a little shop that sold handcrafted jewellery, and they said, “I think I’ve found my souvenir.”

But the highlight of the trip for all of us was the visit to Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the roar of excitement from people riding the world’s fastest roller coaster - The Formula Rossa. It was hands-down the most thrilling experience I’ve ever had. We were strapped in and shot forward at ridiculous speed. I think I screamed the entire way through.

As we left Ferrari World, exhausted but happy, we couldn’t stop talking about everything we had experienced. It felt like we’d done and seen so much in just a few days, but somehow, it still felt like there was more to discover.

The evening was capped off with cultural performances. The belly dancers mesmerised us with their performance, and the Tanoura dancers, spinning endlessly in colourful skirts, were a sight to behold. By the time we returned to our hotel, we were exhausted but exhilarated.

No trip to Dubai is complete without exploring its iconic landmarks. We started with the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. The elevator ride to the 124th floor was an experience in itself, and the view from the top was nothing short of spectacular. Dubai is a shopper’s paradise, and we made the most of it. From the Gold Souk, where the sheer amount of glittering jewelry left us speechless, to the Mall of the Emirates, where we splurged on high-end brands, we shopped till we dropped. I picked up a beautiful gold bracelet for my mom and some perfumes from local Emirati brands that smelled divine.

When it came to food, Dubai didn’t disappoint. We tried shawarma from a small roadside eatery, and it was hands down the best I’ve ever had.
