A Mother-Daughter Adventure: Janbhi’s Dubai Trip Review with Thrillophilia

I’d always thought of Dubai as this glittering, larger-than-life city, but actually being there with my mom was something else. We landed at the airport, wide-eyed, both of us ready to soak in all the glamour we’d only ever seen on postcards.

After we checked in at our hotel in Deira, we took our time getting into “vacation mode” – that’s our ritual. I think it was around 5 p.m. when we got ready for the Marina Dhow Cruise, our first big event.

I’ll never forget the moment we stepped onto the dhow. It felt like we’d walked into a dream, with Dubai’s dazzling skyline lighting up the night. We took a cosy table on the upper deck and, as the cruise started, the gentle lapping of the water made everything feel so calm.

My mom and I just sat there, watching skyscrapers glide by like silent giants. At one point, she nudged me and said, “Let’s capture this.” We snapped endless photos, laughing every time we tried (and failed) to get both our faces and the Burj Khalifa in one frame.

When the buffet was announced, we took a break from our “selfie war” and enjoyed some seriously tasty food. It was one of those evenings that ends way too soon. As we headed back, mom squeezed my hand and said, “I wish every night could be like this.” I couldn’t agree more.

Exploring Dubai's Icons & Sky-High Dreams

The next day was packed with exploring Dubai’s most famous spots.

We started with the iconic Burj Khalifa, and even though we’d seen it from afar the night before, nothing prepared us for the sheer scale of it up close. As we stood in line to get to the 124th floor, mom looked at me and laughed, “Are you ready to touch the clouds?” That view from the top- it just leaves you speechless.

Dubai’s sprawling cityscape stretched out in every direction, and from that height, even the tallest buildings seemed small. We spent a good half-hour just taking it all in, pointing out landmarks, and sharing excited whispers about what to explore next.

After our skyscraper adventure, we ended up at Dubai Mall. We didn’t do a lot of shopping (although I did manage to get a cute scarf I couldn’t resist), but we were lucky enough to catch the Fountain Show.

My Mom was mesmerised – I could tell by the way she just stood there, totally captivated. “This is why people call Dubai a dream,” she whispered, and I knew this day would be a favourite memory of ours.

Whimsical Blooms and a World Tour in One Evening

One of our final days took us to the Miracle Garden and Global Village, and both experiences felt worlds apart from the city’s glitz.

The Miracle Garden is a total wonderland – flowers of every kind arranged in arches, hearts, and even castles. I remember my mom’s face lighting up the moment we entered; she was like a kid again, wandering through a rainbow of blooms, pointing out her favourites. We even took a ridiculous amount of pictures at this little heart-shaped arch. She joked, “At least now we have proof we were here.” And honestly, I think she had more fun posing than I did!

Then, we made our way to Global Village, which was like travelling the world in the evening. We wandered through pavilions styled after different countries, each offering a little slice of its culture, from food to crafts to music. Mom was particularly taken by the India pavilion, of course, and dragged me over to try all the street food. “We could’ve just stayed home if you wanted Indian food,” I teased her, but she was way too excited to care.

By the time we got back to the hotel that night, we were exhausted but happy. My mom, who normally gets tired quickly, was surprisingly energetic. She looked at me as we settled in, grinned, and said, “So, when are we coming back?” I just laughed. But as I drifted off to sleep, I couldn’t help but think, “Maybe sooner than we’d planned.”
